Lottie Shackelford

Senior Advisor to the Chairman

Lottie Shackelford brings both a domestic and international perspective to her clients.  With an impressive 30 year track record in local, state and national politics, Ms. Shackelford is a former Mayor of Little Rock, Arkansas and served as Vice-Chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) for almost 20 years, and was recently elected to head the Women's Caucus for the DNC. Her clients benefit from her in-depth knowledge of local and federal governmental issues as well as her long-term relationship with American policymakers. A Presidential appointee for 10 years to the Board of Directors of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), Ms. Shackelford also has considerable expertise in the arena of international trade and economic development.

Ms. Shackelford's career as a local elected official began in 1978 as a member of the Board of Directors for the City of Little rock, Arkansas. She was re-elected, city-wide, three times and in 1987 made history by becoming the first woman elected Mayor.  Ms. Shackelford has done extensive work with the Congressional Black Caucus and maintains relationships with most of the Democratic Leadership in the Senate, Senate Democratic leaders Charles Schumer, Dick Durbin, Tammy Baldwin, and Debbie Stabenow.
During her tenure in local government, Ms. Shackelford directed liaison activities for minority businesses and held leadership positions in the National League of Cities Finance, Administration and Inter-governmental Relations; Human Development Steering Committees; Budget and Audit Committee Board of Directors and Advisory Board's Future forum. Additionally, she has presented papers on local government, led economic trade missions and conducted lecture tours in Europe, Asia and Africa.

Ms. Shackelford's political participation includes Deputy Campaign Manager for the Clinton/Gore Presidential Campaign; Co-Director, Intergovernmental Affairs for the Clinton Transition Team (1992); Secretary, Vice Chair and Chair of the Arkansas Democratic State Committee; Delegate to the l980,'84,'88,'92, '96, 2000 and '04 Democratic National Conventions; Co-Chair of the Democratic National Convention (1988); Co-Chair Platform Committee (1984); Co-Chair Rules Committee (1988). She has also participated in political and governmental sessions in West Germany, Romania and the Baltics.

Ms. Shackelford graduated with honors from Philander Smith College with a degree in Business Administration and was a Senior Fellow at the Arkansas Institute of Politics and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Ms. Shackelford in on the Board of the The Medicis Company, Phoenix, AZ and has served on the Boards of Philander Smith College, Southern Regional Council, Atlanta, GA, and Commissioner for the Little Rock National Airport.
